Curbing Aftercare

To make sure your new curbing sets properly and lasts as long as it should, here are a few tips to follow right after installation:

First 24 Hours Matter

Please keep pets and children off the new edging for at least 24 hours. The concrete will feel solid after a day, but it actually takes around 28 days to fully cure—especially in damp or humid weather.

What to Do if It Rains

If rain is expected within 4–8 hours of installation, it’s a good idea to cover the curb with a painter’s plastic sheet or similar light cover. Also, make sure any irrigation systems stay off for at least 24 hours to prevent damage. Pool backwash or heavy rain during that time can also affect the finish.

Watering and Sprinklers

Thanks to the additives in our concrete mix, watering your curb isn't necessary during curing. You can resume watering your lawn after 24 hours, but keep an eye on your sprinklers the first time—they should not be spraying directly onto the new curbing.

Landscaping After Installation

You’re good to continue with your landscaping—adding mulch, topsoil, sod, or plants—after 24 hours. Just be careful: tools like shovels, wheelbarrows, and heavy equipment can damage fresh curbing. If you’re moving materials over it, we suggest building a small dirt ramp (around 6” high and 12” wide) to spread the weight and protect the surface.

Curing Appearance

You might notice some uneven or "blotchy" colouring as the curb cures. That’s totally normal. Concrete lightens as it dries, and it will even out over the next few weeks.

About Efflorescence

If you notice a chalky white film appear on coloured concrete, especially during cooler months, don’t worry—it’s called efflorescence and it’s harmless. A few light scrubs using a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water will clear it up. You may need to repeat this a couple of times.

Repairs & Cracks

In the event of damage, we do offer repairs, starting at $450 depending on the severity. Keep in mind: matching colour exactly can be tricky, and sometimes a repair may be more noticeable than the original flaw. Small cracks are often best left as-is.

Cleanup

If curbing was installed around existing grass, there might be some excess concrete left near the edges. It’s easiest to remove this after the first 24 hours. We don’t include a return trip for this in our pricing, so we appreciate your help with a quick cleanup—it’ll help your lawn grow neatly back up to the curb.

Resealing

We seal coloured curbing with a high-gloss product to protect and enhance the colour. To keep your curbing looking great, we recommend resealing once a year in the spring, or at least every other year.
